I am a California-licensed attorney who wrote about Jeffrey Epstein in January 2024. Nothing herein is meant to be legal advice, and I’ve not accepted new clients for years. Due to extensive media coverage and the efforts of Palm Beach police, particularly Michael Reiter, almost all major information about Epstein is already known. Newly released files confirm, using striking visual evidence, Epstein’s power, which I will attempt to summarize below.

Epstein Had Significant Influence

Photos indicate Epstein met, among other high profile individuals, Michael Jackson, Chris Tucker, Diana Ross, Mick Jagger, Walter Cronkite, Bill Clinton, Noam Chomsky, Woody Allen and Soon-Yi Previn. Former President Bill Clinton was in several tacky photos, but no evidence thus far supports misconduct; moreover, raising funds for his charitable foundation provides a clean motive for visits.

One photo shows two handwritten names: Thiel and Elon. In 2011, Elon Musk attended, along with many other prominent guests, an event hosted by the Edge Foundation. At the time, Epstein was a major donor to the Edge Foundation. A six-degrees-of-separation game would most likely connect Epstein to many of the world’s English-speaking billionaires.

Epstein’s Wealth Was Staggering

Files list Epstein’s wealth in June 2019 as over half a billion American dollars, or 559,120,954 USD. In addition to over 56 million dollars in cash, he owned two islands; properties in Manhattan, Palm Beach, and Paris1; and a ranch in New Mexico. How does an “investment advisor” become so wealthy?2 The files do not tell us, and you’d think hackers, the FEC, and the IRS would be more curious.

One photo indicates regular political contributions, including to the Hatch Victory Fund. The donations appear to be part of an itemized list of expenses considered “small” by the creator, who put quotations around the word, small.

Epstein’s Island Required Sophisticated Construction and Expertise

We know billionaires buy and develop islands, but Epstein wasn’t a billionaire. Yet, he managed to build out two islands using sophisticated plans. How? When I saw the inside of several buildings, I wasn’t interested in the salacious art or relatively small number of sex toys. I was thinking why a dental chair and barber chair were designed for someone who could certainly get better treatment in Manhattan. Also, for someone who cultivated so many academics, Epstein’s bookshelves were stocked with puerile fiction and faux leather-bound classics common in three-star hotels. The result makes sense only if the interior designer was an ex-USSR woman particularly fond of the house in The Shining (1980).

Epstein’s Connection to Underage Girls Was Suspected as Early as September 1996

A report accuses Epstein, who “is believed to have sold… pictures to potential buyers,” of stealing photos and negatives of a 12 year-old and 16 year-old girl. “Epstein is now threatening [NAME REDACTED] that if she tells anyone about the photos he will burn her house down.”

Why Did It Take So Long to Convict Epstein?

If authorities knew about Epstein in 1996, and if Epstein allegedly began sexually abusing underage girls at his residence in 2002, why did it take until 2007 before Epstein suffered legal consequences? NPR has an excellent timeline, and I will add to it as best as I can. According to Alexander Acosta, who was angling to become a law school dean, “Mr. Epstein hired an army of legal superstars, Harvard Professor [Alan] Dershowitz, former judge and then Pepperdine… [law school dean] Ken Starr, former deputy assistant to the president[,] then Kirkland & Ellis law partner Jay Lefkowitz, and several others, including prosecutors that formerly worked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office…”

The resulting settlement gave an 18 months sentence rather than what apparently should have been 24 months, and Epstein was released in less than 13 months. While in a minimum security prison, Epstein was “allowed to leave for 12 hours a day to work at a foundation that he had recently incorporated.” A deposition transcript indicates the settlement agreement used the term “best efforts” in a way that allowed Epstein leverage.

I was shocked by the inclusion of a New York Magazine article from December 10, 2007, by Philip Weiss, in which Epstein is quoted as saying, “I like young girls.”

Epstein appeared open with his preferences, with another source indicating “He did not like dark skinned or black girls.”

Ghislaine Maxwell Was Instrumental in Epstein’s Operations

One deposition transcript shines light into how Epstein was able to operate: Ghislaine “Maxwell normalized it for her. She was like a cool older sister… [and] made comments like this is what grownups do.”

Donald Trump is Not Implicated

Donald Trump left phone messages at Epstein’s residence, but the timing of the messages indicates real estate was involved and nothing more.
