Inside Marriott’s Surawongse Hotel in Bangkok is Praya Kitchen. If you’re looking for an affordable yet diverse buffet experience, Praya Kitchen should be on your list. The kitchen runs well in large part because of Executive Sous Chef Yai, who seems to vary the dishes more than other buffets.
One lunch emphasized shrimp—shrimp teppanyaki, shrimp with wintermelon, and sautéed shrimp in spicy sauce—while another focused on different types of curry (Northern Thai curry, similar to the mild Cambodian version, is a must-try).
For this buffet, when you attend matters. Desserts available during Sunday brunch—the most expensive session—include a heavenly matcha crème brûlée I still think about and thick fruit smoothies. No other daytime session has these two items. However, the regular lunch has tiramisu and coconut ice cream as well as other treats.
Saturday’s lunch has more options than the regular weekday lunch, but I’d choose either the regular lunch (cheapest) or the Sunday brunch (most expensive). If you’re not hungry enough for a buffet, across the street is Bangkok’s best casual Persian restaurant, Mohsen.
